Never Give Up!!!

Today we watched videos about inspirational values from Values.com. We discussed the theme of each video.

During math we have been exploring division strategies to guide our thinking.  We created multiple towers to help us with our division work.  We have also been reviewing factors, multiples, square numbers and prime numbers.  Today we took a Pop Quiz to see what we needed to work on.


We have also been learning the 8 Thinking Maps.  So far we have learned the Tree Map to group information into meaningful categories, the Bubble Map to describe characters using adjectives, and today we learned the Circle Map to define Theme in context. 

We have also discussed Author's Purpose: to inform, to explain, to describe, to entertain and to persuade.

Can't wait to see what tomorrow will bring!

Week 3

Our week began with a broken A/C unit in our classroom...it was so hot!  We ended up going to another classroom, but it was hard to focus, but we did write some text for our wordless comics. On Tuesday, we finally had a chance to play Homeworkopoly!!! We had so much fun.Our air was still broken...sweltering again.

Wednesday, we went to another classroom again...we had to rearrange furniture to create a good space for learning, but it was worth it!!! It was much cooler in there.

Thursday and Friday we continued exploring multiplication strategies and played Multiplication Comparison.

On Friday afternoon we completed our first weekly newsletter to share our week with our parents.

Daily Report - 8/25/10

Today was fun! We started our day with 10 minute math...we looked at 6 Quick Images and wrote equations that matched up with them. We then moved on to look at multiplication combinations for 18 and 180. We worked on our number puzzles for a short time before receiving our home learning assignments.

We spent some time working on our illustrations for our family event paragraphs before doing some silent reading.

Then we read LaBamba paying very close attention to the characters in the story. Now we are writing this blog post.

Later we will head to library.

The 5th Grade Learning Adventure has Started!!

25 5th graders entered the room ready to embark on an amazing learning adventure!! Daybooks have been handed out, expectations have been discussed and math investigations have started.

Tuesday: Don't Laugh at Me, Random Autobiographies, Getting to Know You Surveys, Art
Wednesday: Hooray for Diffendoofer Day, Getting to Know You Graphs, Investigation 1.1, Library
Thursday: Galileo Reading Pretest...It was so long that it took all day.
Friday: Galileo Math Pretest, Back to School Night Movie Planning, Qualities of Good Students & Teachers Wordles, Plot introduction, Stargirl, P.E.
